The Metropolitan Opera x Gilt
Brief
Wanting to diversify and rejuvenate its audiences, the world’s most famous opera company reached out to Gilt.com. I had the assignment of presenting the esteemed institution to Gilt’s subscriber base of affluent millennials, resulting in hundreds of conversions and incremental revenue for both players.
The fall season brings Druid priestesses, Italian divas and fairy queens to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, where timeless narratives come to unforgettably vivid life.
A pillar of the bel canto repertory that has been rarely performed in recent years, “Norma” returns to the Met with the resplendent sopranos Sondra Radvanovsky and Angela Meade sharing the punishing and glorious title role.
Bellini’s shimmering score is as beautiful as it is notoriously difficult. Listen for “Casta Diva,” Norma’s soaring sung prayer to her pagan goddess, and for “Mira, o Norma,” a thrilling duet between the doomed heroine and her romantic rival, Adalgisa.
There are few New York experiences as elegant as ascending the red-carpeted grand staircase at the Metropolitan Opera House, as well-dressed patrons swarm around you and the spectacular Swarovski crystal chandeliers glitter overhead.
About the Metropolitan Opera
Offering music-making and stagecraft at the highest level, the Metropolitan Opera presents some two dozen productions each season, both classics from the operatic repertory as well as less-familiar but no less compelling works. The Met’s unparalleled orchestra and chorus together with a roster of the world’s most gifted singers and talented theater artists join forces night after night, season after season, to produce great art.
From gems of the bel canto period (Bellini’s “Norma”) to verismo classics (Puccini’s unforgettable “Tosca”) to 20th-century favorites (Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”), Met audiences enjoy storytelling on a scale that’s, well, operatic.
